How to Lose Belly Fat on the Exercise Ball

The balance exercise ball is one of the best ways to reduce belly fat and is fairly easy to master. Also called a stability ball, Swiss ball or Physioball, the exercise ball is a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment for someone who is on a budget but wants to lose weight or tone the abdomen. Using an exercise ball forces the body to use the abdominal muscles for momentum, resulting in an effective way to work core muscles and help diminish belly fat.

Things You'll Need

  • Exercise ball
  • Comfortable workout clothes

Tips For You

  1. Sit on the ball and bend your knees at a 90-degree angle. Walk both feet forward until you are lying parallel to the floor with the ball in curve of your back. Knees should still be bent at a 90-degree angle.
  2. Place hands behind head with elbows out straight from the ears. Crunch up, making sure you inhale at the same time. Pause at the top, making sure you feel the work in your abdominal area before moving back down, exhaling at the same time. You should do three sets of each move, with 12 repetitions in each set.
  3. Repeat step 2, but this time when you are contracting the muscles upward, twist your body to the right to work the oblique muscles. Alternate twisting to the right and left as you contract toward the ceiling. Do three sets with 12 repetitions in each set.
  4. Sit tall on the ball with abs held in, and lift first the right foot and then the left. As you gain strength, you can hold the foot in the air for five to 10 seconds to make stomach muscle work more intense.
